Set up AI outbound calling

Configure AI voice agents to make outbound calls triggered by workflows, form submissions, or manual actions.

AI outbound calling lets your voice agent dial contacts automatically based on workflow triggers. When a lead submits a form or a tag is added, the agent calls within seconds to qualify and book.

Set up outbound calling

  1. Create or open your voice agent

Go to AI Agents in the sidebar. Open an existing voice agent or create one with an outbound-appropriate prompt.

  2. Enable outbound calling

In the Agent Settings tab of the Agent Builder, toggle on Make Outbound Calls and select the phone number to call from.

  3. Copy the Assistant ID

Copy the Assistant ID from the top of the Agent Builder page.

  4. Create a workflow

Go to Workflows in the sidebar and create a new workflow. Choose a trigger: Form Submission, Tag Added, Manual Trigger, or Appointment Scheduled.

  5. Add the Make AI Call action

Add the Make AI Call action in the workflow builder. Paste the Assistant ID and configure it to use the contact’s phone number.

  6. Activate the workflow

    Toggle the workflow to Active.

Configure the agent

The agent’s voice, prompt, and persona are configured in the Agent Builder, not the workflow. The workflow only triggers the call.

Set fallback actions

Configure fallback actions in your workflow for when calls don’t connect:

  • No answer: Add a wait step and retry after 30 minutes
  • Voicemail: Trigger a follow-up SMS with a callback link
  • Multiple retries: Branch to attempt up to 3 calls, then fall back to SMS/email

Compliance

  • Only call from verified, registered phone numbers
  • Complete A2P/10DLC registration before calling at scale
  • Start with low volume (10-20/day) and increase gradually over 2-4 weeks
  • Your agent’s opening must clearly state who is calling and why
  • Honor opt-outs immediately
